21 Day Sugar Detox

21 Day Sugar Detox

I am on day 6 of a 21 Day Sugar Detox. I know it is cliche to have started a sugar detox on January 1st. But I did. I am a cliche.

I decided to do it because I choose to enjoy my holidays and enjoy some extra goodies like wine, chocolate and gluten free treats. I simply can't do gluten. My face doubles in size and I look like a basketball. Not happening.

It was all going well until December 30th when I had the BIGGEST headache all day. I went to bed at like 7:30 to escape and was still stuck with the stupid thing for days. Nothing can ruin a holiday like a headache. And you know why I had this headache? Because I ate refined white sugar and corn syrup. I have not eaten refined sugar more than twice in probably 2 years. Now I know why. I mean I already knew why, but sometimes I just think oooh it will be fine, and then my body screams at me, Okay. So no more white sugar. Enter the 21 DSD.

Basically no sugar, even natural ones for 21 days. A really small amount of fruit is included. This is NOT how I eat regularly. The whole point of it for me is just to take a break because I can feel myself getting addicted to SUGAR. The sugar monster is real. Even with things like honey and maple syrup. This is a problem with being able to make delicious treats. Sometimes I wish I was the worst baker ever. I just needed a break. I know myself pretty well, and I am an abstainer. I bake a tray of paleo brownies and they are gone in a day, if I leave them on the counter. I am not a "oh I'll just have a bite" kind of person. I am all or nothing. So nothing it is.

Days 3-7 are the worst. Because you have lost the high of starting something new, and you are just stuck in sweet craving land. Plus I don't go back to work till Monday so I literally have all day to dream about cookies. Instead of dreaming about cookies I decided to get fancy with my green tipped banana.

Until you do a 21dsd you literally have no clue how delicious and sweet a green banana is. I mean I can't even. I savor my daily banana like you can't imagine. I have problems.

I decided to get creative with my banana and made this divine chocolate pudding. I needed this chocolate hit to get me through. Bonus there is actually no sugar in it, and it actually tastes good. Actually. I was skeptical as I was putting it all in the blender...believe me.

Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 ripe avocado
  • 1 green tipped banana
  • 1/4 cup coconut cream (or just the fatty part of canned coconut milk)
  • 1/4 cup cacao powder
  • 1 scoop collagen peptides
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp nutmeg
  • sprinkle of salt
  • nut butter (as garnish)

This is the easiest recipe in the world. Put everything but the nut butter in a blender (I mean don't forget to peel the banana and the avocado). Blend till smooth. Top with a scoop of nut butter. I used peanut butter...obvs!. Eat. Lick blender.

Be prepared for sad looks from your dog. But don't give in. Avocado and chocolate are literally the worst combo possible for them.
